The Zoo

The Penguin House in the St.Louis Zoo is wonderful! I love the other animals too. Yesterday many of them were enjoying the late December sunshine and warm weather, as were we.
I liked the little shrine to Ganesha, the Elephant God, that was adjacent to the elephant pens.

Traveling

As we drove through Indiana on Monday, we saw the results of an ice storm that were leftover from the previous week. Trees were bent over, and there was ice on the road in places. Last night (Tuesday) we had icy rain falling here, and today walked on slippery streets.

The Hanukkah candles do brighten this dark time of year!

Mona Lisa From Nashville

Among my Hanukkah presents from my friend Elaine I found this lovely magazine that she's been saving for me. I've never seen this particular Mona Lisa by Peter Max -- I think I've seen a different one.

We're on our way towards San Diego tomorrow.

Happy Hanukkah, Art Lovers!

Art for art's sake

More Mona Lisas. Better.

Mona Lisa smiles... you're kidding me

Mona Lisa travels, among other things

"... and my lips say Thank You"... was Mona Lisa's statement inside this card. This is one of my all-time favorite Mona Lisas because it's totally re-drawn. I also like these:

She sees you when you're sleepin'...

She knows when you're awake... Why? Because her eyes follow you. Mona Lisa: Better than Santa.

A gift from the Magi?

I'm sorry, Olga

To Olga: you wrote that the postcard was not Mona Lisa, but was the icon of Buones Aires -- I'm sorry, but I had to take off from there... Mae

She gets by with a little help from her friends

Mona Lisa has a lot of fun, doesn't she?

So do her friends.

My New Toy

Thank you, Arny and Tracy! It's a great addition to all my wind up toys.

And Happy Birthday, Arny!

Going Back to San Diego

We're on the way back to San Diego next month. These scrap book pages are from our most recent long stay there in 1975. The fabulous turn-of-the-[20th]-century Coronado Hotel was actually a bit seedy at that time; now I think it's been way upgraded. We'll get to know all those old favorites again, but I expect to find things very very different. Except the weather: permanently ideal.

No photos allowed

Andy Warhol

On Saturday we went to the Andy Warhol museum in Pittsburgh. We saw quite a few of his famous portraits, including Elvis, Marilyn, and Jackie; not to mention Campbell's soup. But we did not see any of his Mona Lisa works, to my disappointment. No photography allowed. This is what I could find on the Web.

Birthday Party

A joint 50th for Mary and Marty!

The refreshments were really delicious: many kinds of roasted vegetables (peppers, asparagus, beets), olives, rolled pastry with various meat, vegetables, and cheese, and the very delicious cake. I'm not sure which bakery made the cake.
